could somebody tell me how such a terrible font/logo became so famous?

    The sports world loves to use ultra bold, italicized sans serifs--there's no getting around it. Eurostile and Serpentine have been done to death since the 80s.

    This logo is even similar to Mr. Maxwell's Game FAQ logo that he posted previously...same big bold fonts...
